about

The sophomore effort from The Illusionists finds the Dallas-duo at their darkest and most compelling. Crackling with slinky bass lines, orchestral string arrangements, soaring horns, and boasting a single, extremely rare production assist from Brooklyn/Dallas' own Rob Viktum ("For the Love"), Transposition Theory is a decidedly intense departure from the smooth, jazz-infused feel of their debut, Masks & Façades (2007).

The faction's trademark melody-driven, atmospheric tone still resides throughout much of the collection, which follows their fictional protagonist as he journeys away from the stage and down the rabbit hole on the opener ("Rabbit Hole/Sinister"), through another dimension immersing himself in the dark arts ("Cloud 9 Still"); paying the price along the twisted path through his own pschye (the uptempo "Vertigo" and "Vengeance"). As the album progresses, the listener will slowly come to the realization that they are walking alongside the Illusionist as he gives in to his own desires and obsessions; each track painting a skewed tapestry of darkness ("Chillaxation" and "Slow Burn").

As the story draws to a close, we witness his complete departure through a haze of mystical bells and synths ("Disappearing Act"); however, we feel this won't be our last encounter with the enigmatic character.
